A 39-year-old woman is in critical condition after an early morning shooting Tuesday on Aurora’s near East Side, according to officials. Officers responding to a ShotSpotter alert around 4:08 a.m. found her outside a residence in the 600 block of South LaSalle Street and began life-saving measures until Aurora Fire paramedics arrived. She was taken to a nearby hospital, then transferred to another facility for further treatment.
What Police Say
Detectives from the Aurora Police Department’s Investigations Bureau were called to the scene, and evidence technicians processed the area, Chicago Tribune reported. Police said no one else at the scene was reported injured and that the investigation remains active.
Victim Condition and How to Share Tips
According to a release from the Aurora Police Department, the woman remains in critical but stable condition after being transferred for additional care. Investigators are asking anyone with information to call the department’s Investigations Division at 630-256-5500. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at 630-892-1000 or online via P3 Tips, according to the department’s statement.
ShotSpotter Alert and City Use
Police said the call came in through a ShotSpotter gun-detection alert. Aurora has deployed ShotSpotter for targeted coverage during high-risk times of the year, city officials previously told ABC7 Chicago. The technology can speed up how quickly officers are notified of gunfire, although it does not identify who pulled the trigger or explain why the shooting happened.
Investigation Continues
Detectives say they are following leads and canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses. No arrests or suspects had been announced as of Tuesday, according to Chicago Tribune. Anyone with surveillance video, cellphone footage or other information connected to the shooting is urged to contact Aurora investigators.
