Bloomington, Indiana, has taken a playful step to honor its Indiana University football team, following an impressive Peach Bowl performance. In a show of support for the upcoming College Football Playoff National Championship on Monday, the retention pond at Miller-Showers Park has been temporarily dubbed "D'Angelo's Pond. This move, spurred by a social media-driven grassroots effort, will last for the remainder of the week as the city shows its spirit.
According to the City of Bloomington, the downtown park serves an important role in managing stormwater runoff, with the retention pond capturing and filtering water to protect local waterways. Mayor Kerry Thomson commented on the gesture, saying, “This is peak Bloomington — It’s playful, communal, and exactly the kind of wholesome quirk that makes our city so special.”
City officials said the name change is honorary and temporary, with no updates planned to maps or permanent signage. The pond will continue to operate under its original name and function as a retention facility. Residents are encouraged to join the fun and share their support on social media.
According to the City of Bloomington, a light-hearted gesture reflects Bloomington’s character, with residents and Hoosiers fans encouraged to share photos and support on social media. “The vibes, however, are permanent,” the Mayor’s Office joked, acknowledging the temporary name while inviting the community to enjoy the moment.
