A 44-year-old Woodridge man is in custody after Bolingbrook police say he tried and failed to rob the U.S. Bank branch at 443 N. Bolingbrook Drive on Friday. Officers say the would-be robber took off before they arrived, but he did not stay missing for long and was later booked on multiple weapons charges.

According to a release from the Bolingbrook Police Department, officers were called to the bank shortly before 2 p.m. for a reported robbery. Investigators pulled video surveillance of the suspect and secured a photograph of the getaway vehicle, then worked with the FBI to push that information out to patrol units, a move police say helped set up the later arrest.

How officers tracked the suspect

Local coverage identified the suspect as Arthur Gage Jr., 44, of Woodridge. Police say patrol officers spotted the suspect vehicle parked in the 200 block of South Bolingbrook Drive shortly after 4 p.m. A short time later, they encountered Gage walking on Fernwood Drive and took him into custody without incident. CBS Chicago reports that investigators are consulting with the FBI on the case.

Charges and booking

Bolingbrook police say Gage was charged with armed habitual criminal, unlawful use or possession of a weapon by a felon, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, and unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition. Bolingbrook Police say he was transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility. The agency notes that the investigation remains active.

Investigation ongoing

Officials say the probe is still underway as detectives comb through surveillance footage and other evidence from the branch. As CBS Chicago noted, federal agents have been involved in the response, and Bolingbrook police continue to consult with the FBI.

What we know about the bank

Police initially reported no injuries at the U.S. Bank branch and said no proceeds appeared to have been taken, although they cautioned that the point is still under review. Patch reported that surveillance footage and a photograph of the vehicle played a key role in the quick arrest.

The Bolingbrook Police Department is asking anyone with information to contact the department. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities say additional details will be released as they become available.
