A Reavis High School World Languages teacher resigned in mid-December after two students reported allegations of inappropriate behavior, according to school officials. The district says the educator left without severance and has been barred from campus while local and state agencies review what happened.

Administrators say the situation unfolded quickly. On Dec. 12, two students independently came forward, one speaking with a counselor and the other with an English teacher. School leaders say they immediately began interviews that day, then continued speaking with students on Dec. 15. Those interviews, officials told FOX 32 Chicago, led them to conclude the allegations had merit.

On Dec. 16, the accused teacher was interviewed with his union representative present. After that interview, he was placed on suspension and faced possible termination. School officials say the teacher instead offered his resignation and left the district on Dec. 19, receiving no severance and no post-employment compensation. The district directed him not to enter school buildings, be on campus, or attend any school-sponsored events. Superintendent Daniel J. Riordan emphasized in a statement that the district takes all reports of inappropriate behavior and misconduct seriously and that student safety remains the top priority, according to FOX 32 Chicago.

Investigations Under Way

School officials say they have notified the Burbank Police Department, the Illinois Regional Office of Education, and the Illinois State Board of Education. According to the district, those agencies have begun their own reviews, and Reavis administrators say they are cooperating while state and local authorities conduct their investigations.

Support For Students And Families

Reavis officials say the district is prioritizing student support and counseling as the investigations continue. Families are being reminded that school counselors and the behavioral health team are available resources for anyone who needs to talk or seek guidance. Contact information and board resources are listed on the district's Board of Education page at Reavis Township HSD 220.

Potential Consequences For Educators

Under Illinois law, the State Superintendent can investigate allegations of abuse, immorality, or other serious misconduct and, if warranted, pursue licensure action that can include suspension or revocation. The enacted legislative language requires school districts to notify state officials in certain cases and lays out the state's authority to investigate and act on educator misconduct, according to the Illinois General Assembly.
