Sweet tooths on Troutdale’s Historic Columbia River Highway just got backup. iCandy, a Gresham-based sweets shop known for hand-popped caramel corn and milkshakes, has opened a second storefront downtown in the former soda-shop space, bringing hand-scooped ice cream and bulk candy to a stretch that already sees steady foot traffic from Gorge visitors and locals. The owners have a grand opening set for Saturday.
Owners Keep The Vintage Vibe Alive
As reported by KGW, co-owner Sydney Joyner and her father, James West, bought iCandy in 2024 and moved quickly to get the Troutdale space ready. Joyner told the station the build-out was intense, with the pair putting in roughly 16-hour days, and said they kept many of the original soda-shop features, including a mirrored back bar and an old-fashioned soda fountain, as part of the renovation.
What’s On The Menu
The Troutdale outpost is serving iCandy’s signature caramel corn, hand-scooped Umpqua ice cream, milkshakes, bubble tea and locally made chocolates. According to iCandy, the shop’s new hours are seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
From Soda Bar To Candy Counter
The storefront at 289 E. Historic Columbia River Highway previously housed the Troutdale Soda Bar Café, which moved into the space in 2024 and leaned into a 1950s-style soda-shop aesthetic. Explore Troutdale documented the soda bar’s vintage decor when it opened, and local listings still identify the address as a downtown fixture.
Quick Lease, Big Early Buzz
Joyner told KGW that the lease came together in roughly two weeks after the first contact, and the team managed to open about two and a half weeks after signing. She said the Troutdale location has already drawn a “huge response” on Facebook and from people dropping in to check out the refreshed space ahead of Saturday’s grand opening.
Where To Find It
Both iCandy’s original Gresham shop and the new Troutdale counter are listed on the company’s website, which the owners say will feature the latest menus, hours and catering details. Check iCandy for updates as the new location settles in.
