An Extreme Cold Warning remains in effect for central Indiana until noon today, with wind chills as low as -21°F, according to the National Weather Service. A Cold Weather Advisory will follow from 1 AM to 10 AM Thursday, with wind chills reaching -15°F.
With temperatures this low, frostbite is a serious risk. The National Weather Service warns that exposed skin can develop frostbite in as little as 30 minutes and advises wearing proper clothing, including a hat and gloves, when going outside.
Areas affected include Carroll, Warren, Tippecanoe, and other parts of central, east central, north central, and west central Indiana. Residents of cities like Kokomo, Indianapolis, and Muncie are advised to take extreme precautions against the cold. Adding layers of clothing, including hats and gloves, is crucial for anyone needing to brave the outdoors.
The cold snap is expected to continue throughout the week, with dangerously low wind chills persisting overnight and in the mornings, according to the National Weather Service.
