
An employee at a 7-Eleven store in Chicago's Albany Park neighborhood was viciously attacked during a robbery early Monday morning. According to CBS News Chicago, at approximately 1:48 a.m., a 54-year-old man was pistol-whipped when three men stormed into the store located at 2900 W. Montrose Ave. The assailants proceeded to forcibly take cash from both registers and seize cigarettes before fleeing the scene.
The employee, who was on duty at the time of the incident, found himself overpowered by the trio, one of whom struck him in the face with a handgun. In an effort to seek to give immediate attention, the victim was promptly taken to Swedish Hospital. There, he was reported to be in good condition. Descriptions provided indicate that the robbers made their getaway in a newer-model sedan. As of Monday morning, no suspects had been placed under arrest. WBBM Newsradio noted that detectives from Area Five were actively following leads on the case.
Following the attack, there's been no immediate word from 7-Eleven management about potential changes to security protocols or increased measures to safeguard employees. As detectives continue to piece together evidence, the search for the suspects is expected to intensify. Much remains unknown about the attackers, whose audacious act has now left the local community and the victim to contend with the ramifications of such unwarranted violence.
