
Chicago authorities have leveled serious charges against a young man in connection with a violent incident that took place last year. Johnathon Yarbrough, 23, who resides on the 1400 block of N. Sedgwick St. in Chicago, faces one count of felony aggravated battery with a firearm and two counts related to illegal weapon possession. According to official statements from the Chicago Police Department, Yarbrough allegedly shot and seriously injured a 57-year-old woman on September 7, 2025.
The arrest came as a result of diligent work by the Area Two Detective Division Homicide Investigation Support Team, who managed to apprehend Yarbrough on January 15, 2026. Detectives were able to quickly and effectively to identify him as the alleged shooter whose actions took place in the 12400 block of S. Stewart Ave. in the city's 5th District. Yarbrough's detention hearing is set for January 18, 2026, at the courthouse located at 2600 S. California.
Details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting have not been widely disclosed, though it is understood that the victim, whose name has not been released, sustained serious injuries in the event.
