A tragic incident occurred yesterday morning in the Parkway Village area of Memphis when a teenage boy was fatally shot inside a home. The Memphis Police Department responded to a shooting call on Simsbury Drive around 2:40 a.m., where they found the victim, later identified as 14-year-old Jayden Wilson. According to Action News 5, the teen was pronounced dead at the scene.
The community is left shaken by the incident, with Nicole Bishop, a neighbor and mother, sharing her shock and concern with WREG. "I don't even know, I can't even process it right now. Because that could've been my child, just having out, you know, or anything," Bishop said. She further explained that in light of the shooting, she plans to keep a closer eye on her child's movements. "I'm going to be on my P's and Q's, and I'm going to be very, very, very strict on where he goes from here on out," she added.
Wilson's grandmother spoke to FOX13, describing her grandson as "a respectful child and didn't deserve this." The details leading up to the shooting are still unclear, and the Memphis Police Department is seeking help from the community, hoping that surveillance cameras in the neighborhood may have captured something useful. "We do see cameras, so hopefully somebody's camera captured something," Colonel Carlos Davis stated.
As the investigation continues, the community is left to cope with the senseless loss. Bishop shared with WREG that following the shooting, she will have a difficult conversation with her son, stressing the importance of honest communication. "I'm the honest mom. I don't hide nothing. I don't sugarcoat nothing because the world is too tough right now. Unfortunately, we have to be like that with our children," she said.
