A Dartmouth man was taken into custody yesterday morning, implicated in a series of offenses, including unarmed robbery and possession of a controlled substance, after being spotted in a stolen vehicle by New Bedford Police. This development follows a reported burglary at a CVS on Kempton Street. According to the City of New Bedford Police Department, Nicholas Ouimet, 33, was identified as the suspect who allegedly snatched car keys and other items before absconding with the pilfered auto.

Shortly thereafter, Officer Nicholas Abbate was dispatched to an intersection where Ouimet was discovered slumped in the vehicle. Following his removal from the car, a subsequent search led to the unearthing of drug paraphernalia. "A search resulted in the seizure of a crack pipe and a small bag of cocaine," explained the police department's social media post. Faced with these findings, authorities affirmed Ouimet's involvement in the CVS theft and linked him to a prior robbery at a Walgreens.

During the earlier incident, Ouimet is accused of pushing an employee and snatching cash when the opportunity presented itself as the register stood ajar. These allegations heap up to a litany of charges Ouimet now confronts, which include assault and battery, larceny from a building, as well as the unlawful possession and operation of a motor vehicle. New Bedford officers also uncovered three outstanding warrants attributed to Ouimet at the time of his detention.

The local police underscore the importance of community engagement in helping to solve crimes. "The NBPD values community tips," their statement reads. Residents with any pertinent information are encouraged to anonymously reach out by calling 508-99-CRIME or by submitting tips via their website.
