The Georgia Department of Corrections has charted a new course for Phillips State Prison with the promotion of Dorothy Andre from Unit Manager to Deputy Warden of Security, a shift set to take effect on January 16, as reported by the GDC's official announcement. Andre's rise within the prison's ranks since 2015 has been marked by a series of promotions, a testament to her leadership and work ethic.
Showing fortitude and drive, Andre entered Phillips State Prison's ecosystem as a Correctional Officer and through the ensuing years peeled through the layers of hierarchy – Sergeant in 2016, Field Training Officer in 2019, Lieutenant in 2020, and Unit Manager in 2023, her penultimate position before her latest promotion. Managing a team of security staff and 751 male offenders are slated as her new responsibility. Commissioner Tyrone Oliver, whose words were echoed in the GDC announcement, expressed confidence in her capabilities: "Andre has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership skills and a strong work ethic as she worked her way up through the ranks with GDC."
Andre, whose educational endeavors are currently intertwined with her professional development, is pursuing a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Georgia State University. Her commitment to the Georgia Department of Corrections has been fortified through a repertoire of training programs including the Basic Correctional Officer Training, Sergeant’s Academy, and Supervision I, II, and III.
