Downtown Bloomington is preparing for a College Football National Championship watch event this Monday, as the Indiana Hoosiers face the Miami Hurricanes. Streets may close to vehicle traffic on E. Kirkwood Avenue Monday evening to accommodate increased pedestrian activity, according to the City of Bloomington.
Downtown travelers should note that E. Kirkwood Avenue and the 100 blocks of N. and S. Dunn Street will have no parking all day. A designated Uber and Lyft pickup and drop-off zone will be on 4th Street. The Bloomington Police Department will increase staffing before, during, and after the game to ensure public safety.
Large buses and sanitation trucks will be positioned to block access to closed areas. Expect local businesses to be busy, and dress warmly for outdoor activities.
The city encourages everyone to take care of each other during the event. The Stride Center offers 24/7 mental health and substance use support at 1-866-StrideTeam. Trash and recycling bins will be available to help keep downtown clean.
Championship Night in Downtown Bloomington will bring the community together for the football season finale. The City of Bloomington reminds everyone to stay safe. “Be safe and let's go Hoosiers!” the official announcement states.
