
An early-morning fire on the Far South Side of Chicago resulted in significant damage to a residence and left one man severely injured, as reported by local news outlets. The blaze reportedly commenced within a bungalow at the 7700 block of South Damen Avenue in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood. According to WGN-TV, firefighters responded to the emergency scene around 6:30 a.m. Thursday.
Emergency crews were to quickly surround the affected house, where they discovered the roof had sustained considerable fire damage. During the firefighting efforts, a man in his 70s was located in the basement of the home. He was subsequently transported in serious-to-critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. This was confirmed by CBS News Chicago. The rescue operations were intense, with several firefighters seen making entries and exits from the building while multiple fire trucks remained stationed outdoors.
So far, the local fire department hasn't released an official cause for the incident, leaving the initial source of the blaze unknown. The condition of the injured man, who was found to be injured during the primary search, has not been updated since his admittance to the hospital.
