Ed Carpenter is preparing to compete in his 23rd Indianapolis 500. Carpenter will drive the No. 33 Ed Carpenter Racing Chevrolet in this year's race, scheduled for May 24. He has made 22 previous starts at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway without a win, a total that ties him with George Snider for the most starts at the race without a victory.

Although he has not competed full time since 2013, Ed Carpenter has continued to race in every Indianapolis 500 since making his debut in 2004, according to IndyStar. He has earned three pole positions and five front-row starts at the race, most recently in 2019. In last year’s event, Carpenter led a lap and finished 15th, with his best career result coming in 2018 when he placed second.

Ed Carpenter Racing (ECR) will field three entries for the upcoming race as the team marks its 15th season of competition. Team owner Ed Carpenter will drive alongside full-time drivers Alexander Rossi and Christian Rasmussen, who will return in the No. 20 and No. 21 cars, respectively. Motorsport Week noted that Carpenter will once again serve in both ownership and driving roles for the event.

For this season, Ed Carpenter will focus exclusively on the 110th Indianapolis 500. Since moving to a part-time schedule in 2014, Carpenter has concentrated on oval-track events and last year competed solely in the Indy 500.
