Residents of Fabens, Texas, were shaken by a recent wave of violence that culminated in the arrest of 34-year-old Javier Humberto Hernandez. In an event that sparked concern in the community, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office responded to an assault and robbery on Saturday, January 17. According to a social media post by El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte, Hernandez allegedly damaged a vehicle, physically assaulted the victim, and stole the victim's truck keys in the 300 block of NW H Avenue.
The El Paso County Sheriff's deputies swiftly obtained arrest warrants following their investigation. With the charges pending for Robbery, Hernandez was considered a flight risk; no bond was offered. The Criminal Mischief charge, ranging from $100 to $750 in damages, found Hernandez facing a bond set at $5,000. Having fled, Hernandez was nowhere to be seen until deputies, the following evening, managed to locate him.
Hernandez's arrest occurred without drama on January 18, at around 8:55 p.m. in the 19200 block of Tornillo Avenue, offering residents some relief. The apprehension was handled by deputies who ensured the situation remained under control. Hernandez was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility, a development likely to quell some fears from the community after such a disconcerting incident.
