
An early morning altercation in Salt Lake City escalated into gunfire, resulting in one fatality and one person taken into police custody. The Salt Lake City Police Department was called to the scene near 750 S. 1300 East, a short distance from East High School, following reports of a shooting at approximately 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday. The Salt Lake Tribune reports that the verbal dispute turned violent when shots were fired.
According to Detective Michael Ruff, as per KSL, the investigators believe the conflict ended fatally "when one of them was shot." The victim, whose identity has not been released pending family notification, was transported to a local hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries.
Following the incident, the suspected shooter was detained and taken to the Salt Lake City Police Department for questioning. While an arrest had yet to be made as of 7 a.m., Glen Mills, spokesperson for the Salt Lake City Police, confirmed that the suspect was in custody, according to The Salt Lake Tribune.
