Tragedy struck on a Nashville highway last night when 20-year-old Fisk University student Andre Bell was critically injured in a shooting incident while driving on I-65 north at the I-40 interchange. Bell, hailing from Jackson, Tennessee, was returning to campus with two friends after attending a gymnastics event at the fairgrounds when the violence erupted, sources including the Nashville Police Department have confirmed.

According to the ongoing investigation led by the MNPD's Homicide Unit, Bell's vehicle, a white Nissan Sentra, was alongside a dark sedan when the shooting occurred. His friends, who were present at the time reported being preoccupied with their cellphones and did not notice the other car until the gunshots rang out, immediately realizing that Bell had been struck in the head. The Sentra consequently slowed, spun and collided with a red pickup truck, while the dark sedan sped away from the scene.

Bell was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in extremely critical condition. Police have indicated that evidence points to possible windshield damage on the car from which the shots were fired, a detail gleaned from shattered glass found at the crime scene.

The community along with authorities are seeking answers and assistance in this case. Law enforcement officials have made an appeal for the public's help, encouraging anyone with information about the dark sedan, its occupants or anyone with relevant dashcam footage to reach out. "Anyone with information on the dark sedan, the person(s) in it, or anyone with dashcam footage from that area just after 8 p.m., is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463," the MNPD stated. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous, and could qualify for a cash reward if their information leads to a breakthrough in the case.
