A 20-year-old driver was ejected from his pickup truck and pinned underneath it after rolling the vehicle on Fort Campbell Boulevard in Hopkinsville early Thursday, prompting firefighters to free him with extrication equipment while medics worked to stabilize him at the scene. He was later transported across the state line to a Nashville trauma center, and his injuries, while severe, were described as non-life-threatening.
The Hopkinsville Fire Department and emergency medical personnel responded to the single-vehicle crash at Fort Campbell Boulevard and Novadell Way around 2:30 a.m. Thursday, according to WSMV. Firefighters found the young driver had been thrown from the truck and become trapped beneath it after the vehicle rolled. Crews began the extrication process while medical personnel simultaneously treated him, and Christian County Now reports that his severe injuries were non-life-threatening, although one report described his condition as critical.
Helicopter Lands on Closed Highway
Once freed from under the overturned truck, per Hopkinsville Fire, the driver was placed in a waiting medical helicopter. Responders shut down the intersection and a stretch of Fort Campbell Boulevard so the aircraft could land directly on the road, according to the same report. He was taken to TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, a state-designated Level I Trauma Center with its own SkyLife air transport network and comprehensive neuroscience and burn facilities.
The roadway reopened to traffic just after 5 a.m. Thursday. The cross-state transfer underscores the level of coordination required to move a severely injured patient from a mid-sized Kentucky city to specialized trauma care unavailable at local community hospitals.

Fort Campbell Boulevard is in Hopkinsville, and it has seen other serious wrecks this year, including a crash that sent a Clarksville pedestrian to Nashville by air after the driver was arrested for DUI, as Hoodline previously reported.
Hopkinsville has also seen other serious crashes in recent weeks. A separate crash was also reported in nearby Crofton.
