The Gilroy community is mourning the loss of two pedestrians who were struck and fatally wounded in an intersection collision earlier this month. According to a social media post by the Gilroy Police Department, the second pedestrian, a woman seriously injured in the accident, has died of her injuries.

The crash took place on the morning of January 16 at the intersection of Charles Lux Drive and Lopez Way. The male pedestrian, who was hit along with the woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. Hoodline reported that the woman initially survived with serious injuries and was airlifted to a nearby hospital, but sadly, she succumbed to her injuries as well.

At the helm of the vehicle was a juvenile driver who was detained immediately following the incident. While he has been released pending the investigation's completion, the Gilroy Police Department has confirmed that they are in the process of investigating the collision. The release obtained by Hoodline also noted that neither drugs, alcohol, nor speed appears to have played a part in the collision.

Authorities are continuing to explore the circumstances surrounding the tragedy and ask that anyone with relevant information contact Officer Valencia at [email protected] or (408) 846-0350. The GPD has not yet disclosed any further information about the accident or the juvenile driver involved. Media inquiries have been directed to a separate line at 408-846-0347.
