Amid increased use of speed detection devices across Palm Beach County school zones, Greenacres is implementing similar measures to slow drivers and protect students. CBS12 reports that cameras will monitor speeds near 16 schools, focusing on active school zone hours.

Beginning tomorrow, speed monitoring will take place at Cholee Lake Elementary and Greenacres Elementary during peak student drop-off and pick-up times. Greenacres is implementing a 30-day grace period during which drivers will receive warnings instead of fines to help ease the transition to the new system.

The goal is to reduce speeding near schools while students are walking to and from class, following a model similar to nearby Delray Beach, where over 3,000 warnings have been issued since the installation of speed cameras. Delray Beach also uses flashing school zone lights to alert drivers when reduced speeds are in effect. Sergeant Matthew Saraceni told WPBF 25 News that 3,128 warnings were issued between December 1 and December 4, 2025.

These efforts are part of a broader initiative across Palm Beach County, with cities such as West Palm Beach, Boynton Beach, Boca Raton, and Wellington also using camera-assisted enforcement in school zones. Delray Beach, where the warning period is ending, will soon begin issuing $100 citations to discourage speeding near schools. Sergeant Matthew Saraceni stated to WPBF 25 News that the citations are expected to start within the next few weeks, with the public being notified in advance.

In Greenacres, city code compliance and Palm Beach County deputies will review each potential violation to ensure it is actionable before issuing citations. Drivers found speeding in school zones will face penalties aimed at promoting safety for students.
