Late Friday night in west Phoenix turned violent near 25th Avenue and Hazelwood Street, where officers found a man critically wounded after reports of gunfire just before 11 p.m. Paramedics rushed him to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries as police moved in to lock down the area south of Camelback Road.
According to Arizona's Family, officers discovered the victim when they arrived on scene and called in paramedics, who transported him in critical condition. Reporter Brian Petersheim Jr. noted that detectives remained at the intersection processing evidence as the investigation got underway.
Investigation Underway
Phoenix police have not announced any suspects or a possible motive, and they have not released additional details about the victim. Detectives are canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses and security footage while they piece together what led up to the shooting.

Area Has Seen Violence Before
The blocks around Hazelwood Street have not been strangers to gun violence. Arizona's Family previously reported on a separate Jan. 2024 shooting near 27th Avenue and Hazelwood that eventually led to an arrest, highlighting a troubling pattern in parts of the neighborhood.
