A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run incident in West Palm Beach last Friday night. According to deputies, the collision occurred around 10:25 p.m. at the intersection of Jog Road and Okeechobee Boulevard, CBS12 reported. The victim, identified as 26-year-old Gage Chidester, was experiencing homelessness. Investigators said Chidester was crossing westbound in the marked crosswalk against the pedestrian signal at the time of the incident.
As the Nissan Altima approached the intersection northbound, the traffic light turned yellow, and the driver accelerated, according to WPBF. The vehicle struck Chidester, who was then thrown onto the car and onto the road, where he later died from his injuries.
After striking Chidester, the 30-year-old female driver of the 2022 Nissan Altima slowed briefly but continued northbound, leaving the scene. She was later located at her residence and gave a sworn statement acknowledging her involvement in the crash. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said charges are pending against the driver.
