The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) announced that its Marion County Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Program has received Platinum Certification from CIT International. According to IMPD News Facebook page, the certification recognizes that the program meets national standards for crisis intervention.

Over two years, IMPD and its partners submitted more than a thousand pages of documentation to achieve the certification. The CIT program works with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and local organizations, including NAMI Indiana and NAMI Greater Indianapolis, to support individuals experiencing mental health crises.

Instructors volunteer their time to train officers multiple times a year, helping law enforcement navigate mental health situations. The Platinum Certification allows the program to serve as a model for other CIT programs nationwide and internationally.
