
A high-speed chase that originated in East Peoria led to the shutting down of I-55 southbound lanes near Springfield today. The incident, which began on Interstate 155, concluded at milepost 98 on I-55 southbound when state police successfully stopped the vehicle, according to News Channel 20. The chase was initiated by the East Peoria Police Department, who were in pursuit of a wanted individual.
The pursuit came to an end when officers were able to disable the vehicle on I-55. However, as of 10:53 a.m., Illinois State Police confirmed that the subject had not yet chosen to exit the vehicle. This ongoing situation has effectively halted all southbound traffic along the interstate, as reported by 25 News Now. Authorities have yet to provide additional information about the subject or the reason for the high-speed pursuit.
Travelers in the area were advised to seek alternative routes as traffic on southbound I-55 remained at a standstill, as per News Channel 20.
