
The city of Janesville is mourning the death of former City Council President Doug Marklein, who passed away on Wednesday last week, at the age of 70. Marklein served on the City Council from 2013 to 2023, including four years as council president, and remained active on the City’s Plan Commission until his death, according to the City of Janesville’s official website.
During his time in office, Marklein participated in several committees, including the Community Development Authority, the Sustainable Janesville Committee, the Janesville Metropolitan Planning Organization Policy Board, and the Woodman's Sports and Convention Center Design Team. He was involved in projects such as the West Milwaukee Street reconstruction, Town Square, Festival Street, and the renovation of the Janesville Transit Transfer Center.
The City of Janesville extends condolences to Marklein’s family and recognizes his contributions to local development and community planning. His years of service left a lasting impact on the city’s infrastructure and governance.
