
A deputy-involved shooting occurred in the Elmwood area when Jefferson Parish Sheriff's deputies confronted a male suspect with multiple outstanding warrants. The incident happened at the Citrus Creek Apartments on the 5200 block of Citrus Blvd around 3:25 p.m. yesterday, according to a social media post from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff Joseph Lopinto stated that deputies located the suspect’s vehicle within the apartment complex and attempted to make contact. The suspect fled, striking a deputy and the deputy’s vehicle. During the incident, a deputy discharged at least one round from a service firearm. The suspect then collided with another vehicle nearby. When apprehended, the suspect had at least one gunshot wound.
The injured deputy received treatment and is reported to be in stable condition. The suspect was taken to a local hospital, but the extent of his injuries and his current condition have not been released. An investigation into the incident is ongoing and is being led by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.
