Two Joliet residents have been arrested for their alleged involvement in a theft where they're accused of making off with a cache of collectible Funko Pop figurines valued at around $5,000. Fox32 Chicago reports that 41-year-old Demetrius Greene and 46-year-old Stacey Jones entered an apartment on Marble Street on Saturday afternoon under an alleged pretense.
Police say the pair told the resident they needed to retrieve a personal item but instead began stuffing the pop culture collectibles into garbage bags. Despite calls from the apartment dweller to desist, the situation took a turn when the tenant attempted to intervene. "Once inside, Green and Jones allegedly began putting collectible Funko Pop figurines into garbage bags while the resident of the apartment told them to stop and leave," as per Fox32 Chicago.
The confrontation escalated further when Greene purportedly shoved the tenant against a table as the duo made their exit, fleeing to a waiting rideshare vehicle. Joliet police officers were quick to the scene, pulling the car over on North Larkin Avenue, where they found both suspects and the stolen goods. WGN TV conveyed that the recovered figurines' estimated value stood at $5,000.
Charges have been laid in the aftermath of the robbery; Greene faces a robbery charge and a violation of his pre-trial release, while Jones has been charged with residential burglary. While Greene was subsequently taken to the Will County Adult Detention Facility, Jones was released on a notice to appear in court. "Greene was charged with robbery and violation of pre-trial release for a previous charge, while Jones was charged with residential burglary," informs Fox32 Chicago.
