
Portland police say a juvenile is now in custody in connection with the October shooting that killed 22-year-old Andrew "Andy" Nguyen in the Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhood. The suspect is being held at the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Center and is reported to face charges that include second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon. Authorities say the investigation into the Oct. 25 shooting remains active as detectives continue to gather evidence.
Arrest And Charges
According to KGW, Portland police arrested one of the suspects on Nov. 1 and lodged the juvenile at the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Center. The person is reported to be charged with second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon, and officers say several firearms were recovered during the stop. Police say the arrest stemmed from an encounter that began with a hit-and-run call in southeast Portland.
Victim Identified
The Portland Police Bureau identified the victim as Andrew "Andy" Nguyen, 22, who was found with gunshot injuries near Southeast 142nd Avenue and Southeast Division Street and later died at a hospital, according to the Portland Police Bureau. The Oregon State Medical Examiner ruled Nguyen's death a homicide by gunshot wound. Investigators have provided a tip line and case number, case no. 25-293532, for anyone with information to contact the bureau.
How The Arrest Unfolded
Officers said the stop that led to the arrest began after a hit-and-run call at Southeast 117th Avenue and Southeast Ash Street, where four people ran from a vehicle that was later determined to be stolen. Authorities recovered multiple firearms and connected one of those detained to the Oct. 25 homicide, KGW reported. Police have not announced additional arrests and described the probe as ongoing.
