A Lockhart-area teaching assistant is behind bars after a Thursday arrest that has rattled parts of Caldwell County. Officials say the aide, identified as Brian Rodriguez, now faces multiple counts linked to alleged sexual offenses against a child while investigators keep digging into the case and prosecutors sort through the evidence. Local leaders say they are working with outside agencies as detectives chase down new leads.
According to KVUE, Rodriguez was taken into custody in Las Vegas, then extradited to Caldwell County to face counts that include aggravated sexual assault of a child, continuous sexual assault of a child under 14, and display of pornographic material to a child. KVUE reports that the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office described Rodriguez as a teaching assistant who also served as a youth leader, and detectives told the station the investigation remains active. Investigators asked anyone with information to contact Det. M. Reinarz at 512-359-4514 or [email protected].
Arrest and Extradition
The Caldwell County Sheriff's Office confirmed that Rodriguez was taken into custody and transported back to county authorities for processing. The office lists Sheriff Mike Lane as the county's top law-enforcement official and routes media questions through its public information channels. Officials have not released additional details about any alleged victims while the probe continues.
Charges and Legal Status
KVUE reports that the counts Rodriguez faces are felony-level offenses that could bring significant prison time if prosecutors move forward with charges and a jury eventually convicts. For now, the allegations remain unproven, and Rodriguez is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. Prosecutors are expected to review the investigation materials before deciding whether to seek an indictment or file formal criminal charges in Caldwell County court.
How to Report Tips
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the case to reach out directly to investigators through official channels. To report suspected child abuse anywhere in Texas, the Department of Family and Protective Services operates the Texas Abuse Hotline at 1-800-252-5400 or via its online reporting system. The sheriff's office has also asked residents to avoid sharing unverified rumors or details publicly so investigators can better protect potential victims and witnesses.
