As Memphians peered outside this morning, the cool, fair conditions were unmistakable. The National Weather Service in Memphis reported a temperature of 33°F, a figure underscored by a relative humidity of 82% and a light northeast wind clocking in at 5 mph. While the forecast suggested clear skies, the chill was palpable, given the wind chill factor that nudged the mercury down to 28°F.
The day's outlook, according to the NWS, calls for increasing clouds with calm winds shifting northeast, anticipating a peak at around 51°F. As nightfall descends, the clouds persist, albeit with temperatures holding at a more comfortable 40°F. Memphis braces itself for what looks to be a mild night, with the southward breeze remaining ever so gentle.
Looking to the week ahead, residents can expect a touch of sun tomorrow, with highs soaring to near 63°F—quite the leap from today's cooler climes. The south winds, constant at 5 to 10 mph, will hold steady through the evening, with overnight lows rounding out at 53°F under partly cloudy skies. These conditions seem to herald the onset of a warmer trend, with temperatures slated to climb higher still.
Tuesday's forecast predicts partially sunny conditions and breezes wafting from the southwest between 5 and 10 mph, pushing highs to near 68°F. Tranquil winds will carry into the evening as the low hovers around 49°F. From here on, the weather narrative takes something of a turn; Wednesday's partly sunny skies give way to a 30 percent chance of showers by night, introducing a sense of unpredictability to Mid-South’s weather patterns.
Moreover, the latter half of the week could see Memphians scrambling for their umbrellas. "Showers likely, mainly after noon," warns the NWS for Thursday, pegging the likelihood of precipitation at 60%. And while Friday may offer some respite with a modicum of sunshine, rain chances loom at 40 percent. In the fleeting hours of a waning week, the sky's offerings are to be varied—part sun, part cloud, part shower.
Clearer conditions are on the horizon come weekend, with Saturday's outlook shining bright and sunny, boasting a high near 53°F.
