The Miami-Dade County Black Affairs Advisory Board (BAAB) will hold its annual Black History Month Kickoff Celebration on February 6, at the Stephen P. Clark Center in Miami, beginning at 11:45 a.m. According to Miami-Dade County, this year’s event carries the theme "A Century of Black History Commemorations," marking 100 years since the establishment of a dedicated period to recognize African American history.
In 1925, Dr. Carter G. Woodson initiated the first week-long event to honor the achievements and history of African Americans, which was later expanded into a month-long observance. The advisory board encourages the public to participate in events that highlight the contributions and stories of the African American community.
BAAB emphasizes the importance of inclusivity in its programs and services and affirms Miami-Dade County’s commitment to providing equal access and opportunities without discrimination based on disability.
