Miami Mayor Daniella Levine Cava has announced the creation of the MIA Forward Flight Team to improve both the operations and appearance of Miami International Airport (MIA). The team, composed of industry professionals, will focus on enhancing airport operations and the passenger experience, according to Miami-Dade County. With over 55 million travelers passing through MIA last year and continued growth expected, the initiative comes at a key moment for the airport, an important part of the local and state economy.
Since Mayor Levine Cava took office, Miami International Airport (MIA) has undergone extensive improvements through the $9 billion Modernization in Action Plan, aimed at accelerating key infrastructure projects. As part of the plan, the Lightning Crew, a team dedicated to addressing customer service issues and maintenance quickly, was introduced. These initiatives have contributed to improvements in customer satisfaction. The investments are showing results as the airport prepares for record growth and its largest year to date.
The 14-member Forward Flight Team will begin a review of MIA's current operations to identify opportunities for improvement. Their goals include advancing operational efficiency through data-driven initiatives, enhancing the passenger experience with technology and service innovations, and focusing on the airport's aesthetics, community engagement, and cultural offerings. The team also aims to strengthen MIA’s brand in preparation for global events such as the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The MIA Forward Flight Team includes stakeholders from the tourism industry and workforce representatives, such as Rolando Aedo, COO of the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau, and G. Eric Knowles, President and CEO of the Miami-Dade Chamber of Commerce. The team has 180 days to develop a plan that aligns with the proposed advisory board from Board of County Commissioner Chairman Anthony Rodriguez, reflecting a coordinated effort to support the airport. The plan will focus on strengthening MIA’s operations, services, and international profile.
