Convicted felon Kevin P. Prater collapsed in a Miami-Dade courtroom after being sentenced to 30 years in prison yesterday. Prater had pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
As per Local 10, Prater was arrested on November 20, 2024, on over 50 charges related to incidents in which he cyberstalked his niece, rammed a pickup truck into police vehicles, and crashed into a civilian’s car. His prior criminal record includes a drug offense with probation from 2023 to 2033 and a burglary conviction.
Appearing before Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Richard Hersch, Prater’s sentencing reflected the seriousness of his actions. After hearing the 30-year sentence, Prater collapsed and was attended to by corrections officers and paramedics. He was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where his condition was reported as stable, according to Miami Herald.
The collapse has delayed the finalization of Prater’s sentencing, and he is expected to return to court next week before Judge Hersch.
