Tragedy struck yesterday on Nolensville Pike as a man's life was claimed in a hit-and-run incident. The Metro Nashville Police Department reported that officers responded to the scene near I-440 East around 1:30 a.m. upon receiving a call from a pedestrian who saw a man lying on the sidewalk. The injured man, who later died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, had indicated to the pedestrian that he had been struck by a vehicle, as WKRN elucidates.

Investigators are currently attempting to identify both the victim and the driver responsible for the fatal collision. The community is urged to come forward with any knowledge that could lead to resolving this case. Tips can be anonymously submitted to Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463, a resource that officers hope will similarly help to swiftly bring clarity to the circumstances of a separate hit-and-run crash that occurred mere hours before on New Year's Eve. Anyone with information regarding either incident is encouraged to aid the investigation as promptly as possible.

In a sorrow-filled New Year, another family grieves the loss of a young life. Afriye Seegars, a 23-year-old serving in the United States Navy and a student at Tennessee State University, was also a victim of a hit-and-run on the same night. "She was loved by many," Seegars' family highlighted in an interview reported by FOX 17 News. Her father, heartbroken, came to Nashville from Illinois after being notified of his daughter’s untimely death.

As noted by NewsChannel 5, the Metro Police continue their diligent efforts in the investigation, with the Medical Examiner's Office working in tandem to identify the man lost in the first incident.
