A man has succumbed to his injuries following a single-vehicle crash in Nashville last Friday night. According to a report by the Nashville Police Department, 43-year-old Darling Perez-Rios was the driver of a 2000 Ford Explorer that crashed on Haywood Lane at the I-24 East exit ramp around 10 p.m.
Investigations reveal that Perez-Rios was attempting to enter Haywood Lane from I-24 when he seemingly lost control of the SUV. The vehicle went on to strike the center dividing wall beneath I-24, which caused it to swerve back towards the right shoulder and ultimately flip onto its driver's side. It was reported that Perez-Rios was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the mishap.
Following the crash, Perez-Rios was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Tragically, despite prompt medical attention, he did not survive his injuries.
In an effort to ultimately determine contributing factors to the crash, officials have stated that toxicology testing will be conducted. This is a routine practice in fatal crash investigations to ascertain whether the driver was impaired at the time of the incident. The Nashville Police urge drivers to always use seat belts and practice safe driving habits to avoid similar tragedies.
