The situation unfolded after officers noticed Thomas with an apparently inebriated individual at the corner of 3rd Avenue South and Broadway. Visiting from Scottsdale, Arizona, the 31-year-old victim told police he met Thomas at a bar. After some persuasion, the victim handed over his phone to Thomas, who claimed he needed it to make a call. Instead, Thomas is accused of exploiting the situation by transferring $1,200 from the victim's Cash App digital wallet to another account. The police arrived before Thomas could convince the man to withdraw an additional $300 from an ATM.
Teerick Thomas was arrested and is being held on a $7,500 bond. Officers told Nashville.gov that they had been conducting extra patrols in the area that night to prevent such crimes.
