The City of North Miami is kickstarting its Centennial Celebration with a year packed with events, in honor of its 100 years of existence. The city announced its schedule of commemorative activities, and it seems like North Miami is going all out to embrace its centennial. The heart of the festivities is set for February 5  when the community is invited to the family-friendly 'Carnivals Around the World: North Miami's 100th Anniversary' event, which promises to be a multicultural extravaganza featuring diverse entertainment and activities.

According to an announcement by the City of North Miami, Mayor Alix Desulme, Ed. D. emphasized the City's journey, "Celebrating 100 years is a remarkable achievement for our City," and underscored how diversity and community spirit have shaped North Miami’s history. As the city marks its centennial, the mayor invited those who helped build the city and encouraged the next generation to take part in shaping its future. The yearlong celebration is intended to honor North Miami’s past while setting the stage for its future.

Some of the events on the Centennial lineup include a Historical City Tour aboard the City Trolley, which offers a guided experience through North Miami's history. The City is also partnering with North Miami Elementary School for '100 Days of School', aiming to educate and engage the younger generation in the community's heritage. Also on the event calendar is 'North Miami Through the Century,' a lecture series spread over four parts, giving deep dives into the City's evolution from its inception to the modern day.

The celebrations will also integrate the centennial theme into longstanding city events such as the Spring Egg Hunt, 4th of July Celebration by the Bay, NoMi Haunted Trails, the 51st Annual WinterNational Thanksgiving Day Parade, and Light Up North Miami. The gala event is poised to be the Centennial Gala — a formal night slated for December 5, at the FIU Kovens Center.

Community participation is at the heart of these celebrations, as the City's official announcement invites residents, businesses, families, and community partners to engage in this "once-in-a-lifetime celebratory year." A full calendar of events and updates is available on the City's Centennial webpage, so for those who want to be a part of this historic milestone, all information can be accessed at www.NorthMiamiFL.gov/NoMi100.
