Gunshots disrupted the calm near Oceanside High School yesterday evening, according to a public announcement from the Oceanside Police Department on social media. The incident occurred around 6:55 p.m., when officers were dispatched in response to a report of a man sustaining a gunshot wound. The 20-year-old victim managed to reach the front of the high school before contacting police.
Despite the circumstances, the victim was fortunate to have only received a non-life-threatening injury to his shoulder and was quickly transported to a nearby hospital. The initial investigation, furthered by information provided by the victim, suggested that the shooting might have happened close to the beach. Pursuing this lead, officers swiftly conducted a search bolstered by city cameras, which led them to a crime scene at the intersection of Neptune Way and Cleveland Street.
As detailed in the Oceanside Police Department's Facebook post, the search yielded a single spent 9mm shell casing that matched the ammunition found within the victim's vehicle. The officers also discovered a Glock 17 handgun along with several types of ammunition in the victim's car.
The investigation is actively ongoing. The Oceanside Police Department is appealing to the community for any knowledge that could be relevant to solving this case.
