Oklahoma City is shaking up its trash and recycling collection schedule this week due to the less-than-stellar road conditions. In an effort to keep everyone safe and avoid slick, snow-covered streets, the Utilities Department has pushed Tuesday's pickups to the weekend. Specifically, residents who usually roll their bins out on Tuesday should now do so on Saturday, Jan. 31, the City of Oklahoma City reported on their official website.

Anticipating treacherous roads, despite the roads that will be challenging to navigate due to parked cars and piles of snow, the department chose safety first ― a commendable priority. Utilities Director Chris Browning cited the welfare of collection crews and residents as a key concern. "We know the wait isn’t ideal, but this helps us keep our crews and community safe while creating the least disruption possible across our customer base," Browning said, according to the City of Oklahoma City announcement.

Monday trash collection has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 28. There are no changes planned yet for Thursday and Friday services, pending weather conditions.
Oklahoma City sanitation crews will start routes one hour earlier and may work into the evening to complete pickups. Residents should place trash and recycling carts at the curb by 5 a.m. on their rescheduled collection day.

"Crews will begin service as soon as conditions allow, so customers should not delay setting out their items," as per the City of Oklahoma City's directive. Service issues can be reported to Utilities Customer Service or navigated through the My OKC Utilities app for added convenience.

Alongside refuse readjustments, anticipated adjustments in customer service touchpoints like cart deliveries and repairs have been temporarily put on ice, set to resume once conditions are chill―in the safety sense.
