Pompano Beach will begin construction on a new monument at Fisher Family Pier to commemorate the Continental Marines’ first successful amphibious assault in the Bahamas in March 1776. The project is in collaboration with the Florida Society Sons of the American Revolution. The monument will be a 20-foot obelisk weighing about 17,000 pounds, the City of Pompano Beach website announced.
Fisher Family Pier will close for up to two days during construction. The City Commission approved the project in May 2024.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for March 14. The monument aims to honor the nation’s founding history and provide educational opportunities for the community.
