Investments in bicycle-friendly infrastructure have been considerable, with Provo City planting $21 million into bike lanes and related improvements since 2020, and they're not slamming the brakes anytime soon: an anticipated $46 million is set to roll out over the next five years, developing a veritable network of cycling paths for commuters, students, and leisure riders.
Mayor Judkins weighed in on the achievement in a statement obtained by Provo City, "Becoming a Gold-Level Bicycle Friendly Community is about creating a city that works for everyone, and it reflects years of thoughtful investment and strong partnerships focused on making Provo safer and more sustainable." He emphasized the broader impact of these efforts, linking them to improved safety, healthier lifestyles, community connectivity, and an elevated quality of life in Provo.
The reach of Provo's cycling advancements is broad, relying on the colonies of partnerships with state and local agencies including the Utah Department of Transportation and Utah Transit Authority, not to mention educational institutions like Brigham Young University and active community groups like BikeWalk Provo, instrumental in driving the bicycle revolution forward, "This amount and type of bicycle infrastructure investment is not done by Provo City alone but includes many partners," Vern Keeslar, Provo City's Traffic Manager, told Provo City, highlighting the collective gearwork behind the achievement.
