A quiet stretch of South Lowe Avenue erupted into chaos late Friday when a 58-year-old man was found shot inside a Roseland home, according to Chicago police. Officers were called just before 11 p.m. to the 11400-block of South Lowe, where they discovered the man with gunshot wounds to his stomach and leg.
He could not tell officers what happened, police said, and there were no arrests at the scene. The lack of a clear account, no suspect in custody and a gravely injured victim left detectives with more questions than answers as the night went on.
What Police Say
The Chicago Fire Department treated the man at the home, then rushed him to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition, according to ABC7 Chicago. Chicago police told the station that Area Two detectives have taken over the investigation and that further information was not immediately available.
So far, investigators have not released a suspect description, and there have been no arrests tied to the shooting. The case remains open as detectives work to piece together what unfolded inside the home.
Roseland's Recent Shootings
The shooting adds to a troubling pattern in Roseland on the Far South Side, where multiple people have been shot in recent months and taken to Christ and other nearby trauma centers. In one December drive-up attack, a 28-year-old was left fighting for his life, as reported by daytime drive-up shooting, and the Chicago Sun-Times and other outlets have documented similar incidents on nearby blocks.
Taken together, those cases and this latest shooting have kept Area Two detectives working through a steady flow of gun violence in the neighborhood.
How To Help Investigators
Area Two detectives are asking anyone with information or video related to the shooting to contact their tip line at 312-747-8273 or submit an anonymous report through the Chicago Police Department tip portal, local reporting shows. FOX 32 Chicago notes that police often rely on witness video and neighborhood tips to identify suspects in cases like this.
With no suspect information publicly released and no arrests announced, investigators are leaning heavily on anyone who might have seen or recorded something to step forward and help move the case forward.
