Commuters in Salt Lake City faced significant traffic delays on Friday morning following two separate semitruck crashes on Interstate 215. According to ABC4, an incident involving a semi-truck at the I-215 West and I-80 interchange caused concrete barriers to be pushed into the southbound lanes, leading to blocked lanes and traffic backups.
As the Utah Highway Patrol worked to clear the scene, they predicted that normal traffic flow would resume in one to two hours. KUTV's coverage included footage of the white semi-truck responsible for the accident, showing considerable front-end damage and the barriers it had struck. "The truck pushed the concrete barriers into the oncoming lanes of I-215," Sgt. Mike Alexander with Utah Highway Patrol stated.
The aftermath of the crashes led to traffic being routed around the affected areas, with UHP advising an alternative access to the airport and I-80 East in the meantime. The traffic complications highlighted the potential for extended disruptions when crucial thoroughfares are obstructed, even if temporarily. Meanwhile, reports from KSL NewsRadio described the second incident, which occurred concurrently in the west northbound lanes of I-215, where another semi-truck collision with a barrier blocked the entire ramp leading onto I-80 East.
