As Springfield Township braces for a significant snowstorm, local officials are rolling out a strategy to keep roads clear and safe for travel. In a post on their official Facebook page, the township detailed the snow removal operations they will undertake over the coming days. "Saturday – 3:00 PM: All crews will begin pre-treating roads to get surfaces as ready as possible and help make plowing more effective once snow begins," the Springfield Township post read, emphasizing the proactive approach to storm management.
The township's plan includes splitting the work crews to ensure round-the-clock snow removal from key roads and to provide team members with adequate rest for safety, half of the crew will go off duty to rest at 7:00 PM on Saturday while the remaining crew tackles main connector roads and priority areas, then the rested crew returns Sunday at 7:00 AM swapping roles with the overnight group, a pattern that will continue through the weekend.
According to the information shared by Springfield Township, the focus is to keep main thoroughfares operational during the peak of the storm, which means some residential areas may not see plows until Monday if conditions permit. "Our goal is to have the entire crew focused on clearing all Township streets, including neighborhood roads," tells us that once the main routes are under control, the team will then address the residential streets. Their response to potential challenges will be dynamic, based on real-time weather changes, equipment reliability, and snowfall intensity.
One particular challenge they note is the effectiveness of salt and liquid pre-treatments in very low temperatures, which may not result in the typically clear roads residents are used to. The community is being prepared for subpar conditions despite the crews' interventions, while their commitment shines through their schedule, they plan to begin clearing business corridor sidewalks by Tuesday. The township also addresses the contingency nature of their plan, acknowledging its reliance on forecasted scenarios. They called on the community's patience and understanding, saying in a statement obtained by Springfield Township, "We hope we’ve deposited enough trust and grace into the community bank over time, because we may need to make a few withdrawals during this storm."
As the storm progresses, Springfield Township reassures residents that updates will be provided via their social media channels, urging the community to stay informed and remain supportive of the snow removal efforts. You can stay tuned to their Facebook page here for the latest updates.
