A suspect has been arrested in connection with a double homicide in Harris County, as reported by both CBS Austin and KTRH. Norman Lee Johnson, who is 42 according to CBS Austin, and 41 as per KTRH's report, was taken into custody in Round Rock by the U.S. Marshals Lone Star Task Force; he is being held on capital murder charges linked to the deaths of spouses Christopher and Trinette Lopez, both 52 years of age. The victims were discovered on January 12, 2026, in their home located on Bent Springs Lane in Harris County, having suffered gunshot wounds.
Investigators believe the motive behind the crime stems from a custody dispute, since Johnson is the biological father of the Lopezes' adoptive juvenile daughter. Authorities have pieced together a narrative that implies a domestic ordeal torn asunder by the specter of legal confrontations over what constitutes family, custody, and ultimately, control. Johnson, after his arrest in Round Rock, now resides in the Williamson County Jail as the case is being processed and will proceed in Harris County, where the charges were originally filed.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez of the Harris County Sheriff's Office stated that the alleged shooting was connected to the custody dispute involving Johnson, which CBS Austin quoted, "Investigators believe the alleged shooting was connected to a custody dispute." Confirming the identity of the victims and suspect, KTRH shared an arrest update that divulged, "The suspect was identified as Norman Lee Johnson (5–14-83)."
