If you're planning on driving south along I-15 in Davis County this Friday, you might want to think again. The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) has announced lane closures from Park Lane/North Station (Exit 325) in Farmington to Parrish Lane (Exit 319) in Centerville, specifically for pedestrian bridge work, a necessary interruption but a headache for local commuters nonetheless. "On Friday, Jan. 9 at 9 p.m., crews will begin closing lanes on southbound I-15," reads the guidance from UDOT, pointing to a complete shutdown at 10:30 p.m., which will last until the wee hours of 6:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, as reported by UDOT News.
This inconvenience, while temporary, is part of the larger Shepard Lane Improved project, designed to reduce congestion and improve safety on the interchange at Shepard Lane in Farmington. By the time the sun comes up at 7 a.m., the path should be clear, with all lanes reopened. The work also extends to enhancing pedestrian and bike connections and refining the ramps linked with I-15, US-89, and Legacy Parkway (State Route 67) planning, though necessary, does little to relieve the sting of delay for those caught in the throes of construction.
There's more to watch out for, too. Frequent daytime shutdowns on U.S. Route 189 in Provo Canyon are set to become the norm, with closures happening every Monday to Thursday through February. "Beginning Wednesday, Jan. 7 and occurring every Monday-Thursday through February, crews will close US-189 between Main Canyon Road in Wallsburg and the intersection of State Route 113 in Charleston from 10 to 10:50 a.m. for controlled blasting," details UDOT News, marking calendar squares of disruption, key times, and travelers would do well to avoid or plan alternate routes around the closures.
