University of Miami's defensive back Bryce Fitzgerald fell victim to an armed robbery over the weekend while at a party in Florida City. Attending a gathering at an Airbnb, Fitzgerald encountered multiple suspects brandishing rifles who forcibly took jewelry from him around 3 a.m., last Saturday. Police were informed of a "big, long bang," according to a neighbor who preferred anonymity, expressing concern due to the unusual nature of such incidents in the area, as reported by Local 10 News.
The event has cast a shadow over Fitzgerald's preparations for the College Football Championship, slated for Jan. 19, where his team, the Hurricanes, is geared up to battle it out against Indiana at Hard Rock Stadium. Despite the traumatic experience, it was reported that no injuries stemmed from the robbery, and the Florida City police are actively investigating the incident.
According to NBC6 Miami, Fitzgerald is no stranger to Miami, having played high school football at Christopher Columbus High School. The recent robbery adds to the team's pressure as the Hurricanes recently secured a win against Mississippi in the College Football Playoff semifinal, culminating in a 31-27 scoreboard.
An inquiry for a response was made by NBC6 to Airbnb in the wake of the robbery. The investigation continues, and so far, no suspects have been arrested in connection with the robbery.
