If you're planning to cruise through the Venetian Causeway anytime soon, you might want to rethink your route. Today, the stretch is getting some major security beef-up that's sure to increase your travel time. According to a release from Miami-Dade County, local authorities are hosting some top-tier dignitaries, which means road closures are in effect from approximately 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. for any westbound traffic from Miami Beach to San Marino Island.

And it's not just those headed west who'll need to detour. The release states that both eastbound and westbound lanes on the Venetian Causeway will be giving a timeout—sans the residents of San Marco Island, who'll still be able to get where they're going. If you're on Biscayne Island, though, you're in luck, because it's business as usual over there with no traffic restrictions.

Drivers aren't the only ones who'll feel the squeeze. Boat operators are looking at some schedule shake-ups too. Normally, the East and West Venetian Causeway Bridges play by the clock, swinging open every hour and half-hour. But from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., they'll be working off the books, moving to accommodate the backlog of boats and cars as needed.
