Online meetups carry risks for runaways
Authorities and child-safety groups warn that young people who run away to meet online acquaintances can face heightened risks, including exploitation and trafficking. The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children offers resources for families of runaway youth, and the FBI provides guidance on keeping children safe online. Families who suspect a young person may be planning to run are encouraged to check devices for contacts and to share any concerns or tips with law enforcement.
