Violence has once again punctuated the night in Chicago's McKinley Park neighborhood, where a 21-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man fell victim to a shooting while driving on Sunday night. According to WGN-TV, the incident occurred just before 9:25 p.m. as they were traveling northbound in the 3300 block of South Western and were flanked by a dark-colored SUV from where the shots were fired.
The pairs' evening took a turn for the worse when gunfire erupted, striking the woman in the back and arm and injuring the man in the arm. While the man's condition stabilized, the woman's fight for life was far from over as she was rushed to Mt. Sinai in critical condition, struggling with the harsh reality of her wounds. Meanwhile, CBS News Chicago affirmed that shootings took place near 33rd Street on Western Boulevard.
As of Monday morning, the search for the perpetrators remains a task at hand, with no one in custody. The authorities are urging anyone with information to provide a helping hand by leaving an anonymous tip at cpdtip.com. This call to collective responsibility speaks to the heart of a community plagued by too many nights broken by the sound of gunfire and the distress that follows.
